Program Management & Administration

Standard 5: Program Management and Administration

Candidates plan, develop, implement, and evaluate school library programs, resources,

and services in support of the mission of the library program within the school according

to the ethics and principles of library science, education, management, and administration.  . There are four elements to this standard: (5.1) collections; (5.2) professional ethics; (5.3) personnel, funding, and facilities; and (5.4) strategic planning and assessment.

To show that I am an effective manager and administrator of the library, I have included my Policy and Technical Services Manuals, which represent well-thought-out policies for the major aspects of running a library, with a huge emphasis on maintaining the collection and providing effective access to library resources for all students.  To demonstrate my understanding that the librarian is providing a program to the entire school, I have included an all-inclusive curriculum map which outlines all of the courses we offer, as well the different topics of study for each.  This allows me to identify the needs of classroom teachers throughout the building and to match the collection to the curriculum within our building. Finally, I have also included a sample budget to show that I will effectively manage the allocation of funds for resources in such a way that they match the goals of the school and the needs of the school community.
