Information & Knowledge

Digital Curation (above)

Standard 3: Information and Knowledge

Candidates model and promote ethical, equitable access to and use of physical, digital, and virtual collections of resources. Candidates demonstrate knowledge of a variety of information sources and services that support the needs of the diverse learning community. Candidates demonstrate the use of a variety of research strategies to generate knowledge to improve practice.  There are four elements to this standard: (3.1) efficient and ethical information-seeking behavior, (3.2) access to information, (3.3) information technology, and (3.4) research and knowledge creation.

I am committed to teaching the research process to all students and enabling all students to access information they need accurately and efficiently. Samples of my work, such as the digital curation of primary source document-based websites using symbaloo can be used in collaboration with teachers or offered as a resource.  The Pathfinder is another great example of working with teachers to instruct students in how to access information, assess its validity, check sources of information and how to document their findings in appropriate and ethical ways.  Each technology that I am able to introduce to students will become a new tool in their repertoire.  I believe this allows me to have an impact in many more classrooms than just those I meet in the library.
