The sample newsletter demonstrates that as your librarian, I will keep the school community informed of the exciting things we are doing in the library by providing or contributing to a newsletter each month.  I show leadership by being a member of professional organizations and attending conferences, which enable me to meet and collaborate with other librarians, be introduced to new trends and technologies, such as the Hour of Code and Web 2.0 tools, and to get ideas for our library.  I have demonstrated good leadership by sharing what I learn in effective ways with the entire school community, such as my video creation explaining the Hour of Code and inviting teachers to participate.  As your library leader, I will offer Professional Development for our staff and training for students throughout the year. As an advocate for students, I work with teachers to develop reading comprehension strategies to improve student performance and enhance their experience with books and reading.  Events such as Family Literacy Night allow me to reach the community outside of the school.

Standard 4: Advocacy and Leadership

Candidates advocate for dynamic school library programs and positive learning environments that focus on student learning and achievement by collaborating and connecting with teachers, administrators, librarians, and the community. Candidates are committed to continuous learning and professional growth and lead professional development activities for other educators. Candidates provide leadership by articulating ways in which school libraries contribute to student achievement.  There are four elements to this standard: (4.1) networking with the library community, (4.2) professional development, (4.3) leadership, and (4.4) advocacy.
