Librarian

Hi, my name is Rose Gallitz and I have recently earned my Master of Education degree in School Librarianship.  I can't wait to begin my new position as a librarian in your school.  As a 20-year veteran teacher, I am familiar with creating instructional units, using local curricula, unpacking the standards, and working in PLC teams with my colleagues.

My mission as your librarian is to facilitate independent reading and research, to teach information literacy learning through collaboration with teachers, and to provide students with the skills and resources to become independent critical readers, thinkers, and information users.

My library goals are designed to support and enhance the curriculum and its goals and to prepare our students to be informed, productive, and concerned citizens in an information‐driven society.

My main drive will be to encourage students to continue learning throughout their lives, to become ethical users of information and supporters of intellectual freedom, to develop an appreciation for literature and a love of reading, to appreciate diversity, and to develop a tolerance for differing points of view.

As your librarian, I will help students acquire the necessary critical thinking strategies and evaluative skills to do so.  I want the library to be the place where reading for pleasure, inquiry, and the extension of the classroom learning come together.

I'm looking forward to working for you!

I currently teach in Prince WIlliam County and also teach in the Prince William County Virtual High School.  I achieved National Board certification in 2003, and again in 2013.  I am married with two small children, ages 4 and 7.  I enjoy crafts and running, and have two wonderful dogs.
